MODIFICATION AND RENOVATION OF A PANTRY CAR, A GENERAL SECOND CLASS COACH AND AN EMU COACH BY S.E.RAILWAY

With a view to meet the rising expectations of the passengers and keeping in view the commitment of railways towards customers satisfaction, South Eastern Railwayhas modified and renovated a conventional Pantry Car, an EMU Trailer Coachand a General Second Class coach with modern and sophisticated gadgets. The complete renovation works of the three coaches i.e. one pantry car, one EMU coach and one General Second Class Coach have been done in the South Eastern Railway Workshop at Kharagpur.

Shri O.P.Chaube, Addl. General Manager & Chief Mechanical Engineer of South Eastern Railway in a Press Meet held at Santragachi Station today (26.06.2013) spoke about the renovation work undertaken at Kharagpur Workshop of S.E.Railway and mentioned the salient features of the modified Pantry Car, General 2nd Class Coach and the EMU Coach. Shri V.K.Aggrawal, Chief Electrical Engineer, S.E.Railway was also present.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF RENOVATED PANTRY CAR No.SE 998806

The main objective of renovation and modification of the Pantry Car is to serve more hygienic and quality food to passengers and improving the standards of cleanliness. This has been done by arranging more kitchen space and improving the interiors.

·22% more kitchen space.
·Electric cook top- Fire safety by elimination of LPG.
·Stainless steel panelling- Hygiene, easy to clean, better pest control.
·Chequered Aluminium floor plates.
·Ventilation and illumination – blocking of dust ingress in cooking area.
·Gradient floor with central drain channel to avoid water logging.
·Staff area- improved ventilation and illumination.
·Elimination of fumes & smoke of food by panel of chimney.
·Wide clean area for dishing out food & dispersal for service.
·Restricted entry into cooking area- improved hygiene.

The cost incurred is Rs. 43.80 lakhs

SALIENT FEATURES OF EMU TRAILER COACH No.SE 10969
An EMU coach has been renovated and upgraded to extend more comfort to the suburban passengers.
·Poly-carbonate seats – better comfort & appearance.
·Stainless steel hand-holds, partitions and luggage racks.
·Entire floor with Aluminium chequered floor plate.
·New exterior colour scheme to MRVC colour scheme.
·Pleasing interior appearance.

The cost of renovation – Rs.8.77 Lakhs


SPECIAL FEATURES OF RENOVATED SECOND CLASS UNRESERVED COACH No. SE 028439

A General 2nd Class Coach has also been renovated and modified to avoid breakage of ceiling, chances of fire hazard and enduring sustainability with heavy passenger pressure.

·Stainless steel Ceiling-breakage free, fire safety.
·Uniform pleasing colour scheme inside the coach.
·Anti-slip Epoxy flooring in toilets – no water logging.
·Full length compreg on luggage rack.

The cost involved is Rs. 3.96 lakhs.

South Eastern Railway has a plan to modify and upgrade the other Pantry Cars and Coaches at the Railway Workshop at Kharagpur in a phased manner.
