PURUSOTTAM EXPRESS TO RUN WITH LHB COACHES

To make train journey more comfortable, East Coast Railway has taken steps to introduce LHB Coaches in its prestigious Purusottam express running between Puri & National Capital New Delhi having improvised features and greater passenger friendliness.

Purusottam Express will now run with 22 LHB (Linke Holfman Bush) coaches, besides being hi-tech and also carry, higher speed level, higher level of cleanliness, better shock absorbers and low noise level. These coaches have also anti-mounting mechanism to prevent mounting of coaches over another coach in case of derailment and reduce damages, thus being advanced in terms of safety.

The disc brake system of the LHB rakes ensures effective application of brakes with less response time and space. As against the noise level of 100 decibels in conventional coaches, the LHB coaches will have only 60 decibel noise level, thereby providing a more comfortable experience to the travelling public. The horizontal as well as vertical shock absorbers will also reduce the jerk level considerably. To maintain a higher cleanliness level at the stations, 'controlled discharge toilet system' has been put in place and the toilet discharge is automatically sealed at the stations to open up only after the train acquires a speed of 30 km per hour. The improved foreign technology used in cooling of LHB coaches reduces energy consumption as less energy is required to maintain the temperature in AC coaches at the desired level.

Purusottam Express with LHB Coaches will run w.e.f. 1st December 2013 from Puri and w.e.f. 3rd December 2013 from New Delhi. The 22 coaches of Purusottam Express comprise of 12 sleeper class coaches, 04 AC-3 tier coaches, one AC-2 tier coach, 02 general second class coaches, 02 luggage-cum-generator coaches and one pantry car.

This apart, the Carriage Repair Workshop (CRW) at Mancheswar of East Coast Railway is also overhauling Linke Holfmann Busch (LHB) coaches since the month of May of this year. Complete overhauling of bogies, air brake system and roof mounted Air-conditioning system including Poly Urethane (PU) paintings, interior and renewal of berths of LHB coaches are being repaired and put into service.
