Central Railway will augment Fiftysix 9-car services to 12-car services with effect from 23.11.2011. With this augmentation all the 785 main line services run daily on Central Railway will have 12-car. CR ran first 12-car service on 8th Sep 1986.
CAPACITY AUGMENTATION on CR FROM 2008-09 TILL DATE
During the last 3 years, CR has tremendously increased its carrying capacity. CR has increased the services from 1410 in 2008-09 to 1573 at present (around 11.5% increase). The No. of coaches in service have increased from 13998 in 2008-09 to 16896 at present (around 20% increase). Central Railway is now running 1573 daily suburban trains in Mumbai by utilising 117 rakes.
