‘Aadhaar Card’ to be accepted as Proof of Identity


The Unique Identification Card ‘Aadhaar’ has been incorporated as o­ne of the Proofs of Identity acceptable for undertaking the journey o­n E-Tickets as well as tickets booked under Tatkal Scheme over Indian Railways.

With this, the number of Proofs of Identity which are accepted o­n Indian Railways for undertaking journey o­n e-tickets as well as tickets booked under Tatkal Scheme will become nine.In addition to ‘Aadhar Card’, the other eight Proofs of Identity already accepted are :


  1. Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India.
  2. Passport
  3. PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department
  4. Driving License issued by RTO
  5. Photo Identity Card issued by Central/State Government
  6. Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized school/college for their students.
  7. Nationalized Bank Passbook with photograph
  8. Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photographs.
