Train services to be regulated or cancelled


Train services will either be cancelled or regulated at Madurai Junction between September 29 and October 13 as the Madurai Division of Southern Railway plans to undertake yard re-modelling work to augment train operating capacity and to provide additional traffic facilities.

According to a Southern Railway press release, the existing metre gauge lines on platforms 6 and 7 into broad gauge to cater to additional traffic in future.

Exclusive lines are to be earmarked for operation of goods trains and facility will be created for operating trains from platform 8 in Dindigul direction.

The re-modelling work includes rearrangement of signalling system to cope with the changes and also creating of berthing facilities for tourist trains.

Trains to be cancelled

The 22621 Rameswaram-Kanyakumari tri-weekly express will be cancelled on September 29, October 1, 4, 6, 8 and 11.

The 22622 Kanyakumari-Rameswaram tri-weekly express will be cancelled on September 30, October 2, 5, 7, 9 and 12.

The 56707/56708/56709/56710 Dindigul-Madurai-Dindigul passengers will be cancelled from October 5 to 8.

Partial cancellation

The 12635 Chennai Egmore-Madurai Vaigai Express will be partially cancelled between Koodal Nagar and Madurai from September 30 to October 12.

The train will reach Koodal Nagar at 9.15 p.m.

The 12636 Madurai-Chennal Egmore Vaigai Express will be partially cancelled between Madurai and Koodal Nagar from October 1 to 13.

It will leave Koodal Nagar at 6.55 a.m.

The 12637 Chennai Egmore-Madurai Pandian Express will be partially cancelled between Koodal Nagar and Madurai from September 29 to October 12. It will reach Koodal Nagar at 7.05 a.m.

The 12638 Madurai-Chennai Egmore Pandian Express will be partially cancelled between Madurai and Koodal Nagar from September 30 to October 12. It will leave Koodal Nagar at 8.45 p.m.

The 56319 Nagercoil-Coimbatore passenger will be partially cancelled between Virudhunagar and Madurai from September 28 and 29; between Madurai and Dindigul from September 30 to October 5 and between Virudhunagar and Dindigul on October 12.

The 56320 Coimbatore-Nagercoil passenger will be partially cancelled between Madurai and Virudhunagar on September 28 and 29; between Dindigul and Madurai from September 30 to October 5 and between Dindigul and Virudhunagar on October 12.

The 56734 Shencottah-Madurai passenger will be partially cancelled between Virudhunagar and Madurai and the 56735 Madurai-Shencottah passenger between Madurai and Virudhunagar on October 12.

The 22628 Tirunelveli-Tiruchi Intercity Express, scheduled to leave Tirunelveli at 2.15 p.m., will leave at 3.15 p.m. on September 30 and October 12.

Regulation

The 16788 Jammu Tawi-Tirunelveli bi-weekly express will be regulated for 60 minutes at Dindigul on October 4.

The 16127 Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express will be regulated for 85 minutes at Dindigul on October 12.

The 56825 Erode/Mayiladuthurai-Tirunelveli passenger will be regulated for 40 minutes at Dindigul on October 12.

Koodal Nagar station

With the decision to operate the Vaigai and Pandian Express from and to Koodal Nagar from September 29 to October 13, the Southern Railway has made special arrangements at the station for handling additional passenger traffic, according to Ajai Kant Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager.

Special city buses

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Madurai Division) will operate special city buses between Madurai railway junction and Koodal Nagar railway station from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on these days.

More unreserved ticketing

An additional unreserved ticketing system will be provided on platform 2 at Koodal Nagar, along with two touch screen facility for reservation enquiry.

Light refreshment stalls will be opened on platform 2. Spacious parking area will be provided near platforms 1 and 2.

Other facilities to be added to the station include public address system, porter service and wheel chairs.

Additional Railway Protection Force personnel will be deployed at the station and Scouts and Guides will guide the passengers.
